Democratic Primary Results

Creigh Deeds' victory in the Democratic gubernatorial primary suggests that Virginia has not become quite as "blue" as someone commentators had thought. But what does it bode for Northern Virginia and Reston? Since Deeds seemed the candidate least open to change and since he does not come from Northern Virginia, it might seem that Northern Virginia will have to wait another four years at least for the Commonwealth to address the region's transportation and planning issues. I don't recall Deeds suggesting, for example, that Virginia should reconsider the Dillon rule (which limits the powers of local governments) as McAuliffe did.

Of perhaps greater significance for Northern Virginia was the defeat of veteran member of the House of Delegates from Northern Virginia, Robert Hull, in the Democratic primary. Perhaps other aspiring candidates will realize that delegates are not elected for life.
